Insight on Eyesight

Why exactly does everyone need glasses? Why do our eyes fail us at such a young age? Is it "Hereditary"? Are we born with it? Why me but not my neighbor?

These are all questions you have probably asked at one time or another. So what's the real deal? Well I do NOT believe that our eyes are faulty by design! And the question I have to ask is; outside of the occasional dog running into a parked car, why do animals seem to have better eye function than humans? Well let's look at the obvious, logical, and most probable cause...what we eat. We know for a fact that we eat much more sugar than the average animal. We know from studies that sugar damages your eyesight as well as lists of other things (http://www.mercola.com/2005/may/4/sugar_dangers.htm). This is confirmed in the fact that Diabetics often have deteriorating eyesight or blindness. You can start to see why your eyes seem to mysteriously get worse when you're younger, then level out as an adult (when you start eating less sugar).

So what can we do?
1. STOP giving your kids sugar! You are ruining their health when you think you are simply "treating" them. There are other ways to reward your children like YOUR TIME and ATTENTION!
2. Exercise your eyes. We make the early mistake of becoming dependent on glasses and contacts because we don't know any better. Like the hawk watching the mouse in the field, we should be doing things that exercise the muscles of the eye to strengthen our sight. This is the concept the "See Clearly Method" is based on as you may have heard advertised (This is not an endorsement as I do not know if this method works).

Your body IS NOT faulty in it's design. It was PERFECT at conception and if something is wrong it is usually something we have done or someone has done to us. LIVE by this definition and you will see your health improve.

The secrets of Disc Health

Disc and Joint health is a critical component to living a pain and arthritis free life. Let's cover a few basics to keeping your discs healthy and functional.

1. Water: The Proteoglycans that make up the disc are designed to attract and retain water. This forms a gel like substance responsible for the cushion of the disc. Therefore, the first step to healthy joints is Water intake (half your body weight in ounces of GOOD water daily).
2. Movement: The discs are completely avascular which means no blood supply. Therefore in order to get nutrients into the discs, they must go through daily loading/unloading cycles as with the Wobble Chair and Repetitive Cervical Traction. When these are not available, full active range of motion should be performed daily.
3. Nutrition: Your discs like every tissue require certain nutrients to stay healthy. Some of the major nutrients that improve disc health are Glucosamine and Chondroitin (BBG Arthiplex is an excellent product) though eating plenty of Fruits and Vegetables are the key to good systemic health.
4. Eliminate damage: Smoking leaches water from your joints, soda dehydrates your body, cows milk has been linked to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and chemical toxins destroy cartilage. Eliminate as many of these risk factors as possible.
5. Keep your spine functional: Getting adjusted keeps the joints free from restriction and helps the body maintain proper form which reduces abnormal weight bearing on the joints. Weight bearing exercise daily also keeps the joints strong.

Your joints are designed to last a lifetime without wear. By taking these basic measures you can add years of activity and reduce suffering significantly. Not to mention the savings on future health care cost by taking proper care of yourself. Feel free to post questions and comments to the Blog from our website.

What comes out...

Doesn't it make sense that what you put in is what will come out? Though this isn't the most "proper" subject in health care we need to pay more attention to our bowel movements as an indicator of our health. For those that have pets you ALWAYS know when they are not well because of what they leave around the house, yet many people have the same bowel movements as a sickly animal and pay little attention. Here are some guidelines:

1. You should have at least one bowel movement daily (animals do).
2. Evacuation should be a quick process. More than 5 minutes in the bathroom is too long (again look at animals).
3. Your "droppings" should be solid (little "clean-up" should be required).
4. You SHOULD NOT be able to identify Thursday's lunch!
5. Odor should be minimal, this includes gas.

If you have any of these problems or others, here's a few simple starter solutions.

1. NO DAIRY! Give a dog a hunk of cheese and watch what happens. Dairy is the #1 culprit in practically every digestive disorder we know of.
2. Eat the right foods: Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and no refined or packaged junk.
3. Take Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes to aid digestion (Juice Plus takes care of #2 & #3).
4. Reduce meat consumption: Increased sulfur intake increases odor.
5. No Pork, Shellfish, or Bottom Feeders (catfish, eel, etc): Science now backs what the Bible has taught us thousands of years. All of these eat feces and other junk, therefore carry greater amounts of disease, worms, and toxins.
6. Still have problems! Talk to me or another Natural Physician to exhaust other options before medicating.

The Estrogen Dilemma

Hormone imbalance in women is one of the most common issues plaguing the health of our nation today. Although diet and lifestyle play a significant role in causing the problem initially, rampant misdiagnosis leads us into a whole new level of epidemic proportions. Despite our reasonable understanding of the human body, the rates of everything from cervical and breast cancer to depression have continued to spiral out of control. Could this be a factor? Is it a mystery why women everywhere are getting hysterectomies to clean up the mess and going on dangerous Hormone Replacement Therapies yet the problem remains?
The problem more often than not is Estrogen dominance. This can be caused by too much Estrogen, or too little Progesterone. But if you suffer from hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, pms, erratic periods, excessive flow, depression, decreased sex drive, weight gain, thyroid problems, or a host of other unpleasant side effects you may fit the category.
Here's a few suggestions to get you started:
1. Take a free online questionnaire at: http://www.johnleemd.com/store/resource_hormonetest.html
to see what is suspected.
2. Order a Hormone saliva test from the site based on your online results and get the real results.
3. Once results are obtained, we can provide some natural options to balance your hormones.

The Cure to the Common Chiropractor

So there are a million Chiropractors in your town and you don't know which one to pick. Can you imagine if every Dentist you went to used different instruments and gadgets and performed their services completely different? What a mess that would be (sound familiar).

Well there is good news. A Doctor named Burl Pettibon, a scientist, saw the need for True Correction in Chiropractic Care and set out in a lifelong mission to unlock the scientifically based workings of the spine and how to cause permanent correction rather than temporary relief. Thanks to Dr. Pettibon it is possible to make lasting changes in the spine so you don't have to "see the Chiropractor every week for the rest of your life" as I'm sure you've heard before.

So does every Chiropractor know and actively practice under this system? Unfortunately no, but when looking for a Chiropractor in your respective area MAKE SURE that they are grounded in Science and that they don't rely on whoo-ing you with "Chiropractic Philosophy" whether than showing you exactly how YOUR Correction will be accomplished (not a case study of someone that miraculously healed 10 years ago).

The key is, If you can't see the changes on X-ray, it isn't fixed! You might wonder if the last film you had there were problems and you haven't seen another since. Let your other Chiropractic Patient friends (especially those that still have problems after years) know this as well, they WILL thank you for it!
